Hi I'm Dave Long.

I've lived in Tallahassee all of my life. I'm a percussionist, and I play in a rock band with my friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Being raised in a Mormon family that lives in the south, I've always stuck out at schools that I have attended. I'm very outgoing and I try to be friends with everyone I come in contact with. With the combination of the two, I get asked a lot of questions about the church and my friends think of me when they think of the church, so I try to be a good example. From a young age I was exposed to talent and the music industry. My mom is a piano performance major, and my three older brothers all play guitar or bass and sing. Ever since I saw their shows as a 4-5 year-old, it's been my dream to become famous in a rock band. When I was in third grade, I got a drum-set for Christmas. I've been playing ever since and have been developing my skill into other percussive instruments. I play on my drumline at my high school and also play four mallets on marimba. I love music, and I believe that people can be brought unto the gospel with it. Currently I play in my band Hooray For Autumn who has already released an EP and is playing shows and selling merchandise to raise money for an album that will hopefully get us signed to a label.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was born into a Mormon family and was baptized at eight years old, I had a time when I was about 13 or 14 and was questioning a lot of things I was being taught. I took it as a challenge and read my scriptures more and prayed more. As I faced obstacles and overcame them, the truthfulness of the Gospel was revealed to me through the spirit testifying to me. I believe that every Latter-Day Saint has a time in their life that they convert to the church, even if they are born into the church. I'm a Mormon because of the love I have felt by the Holy Ghost, and because of the happiness I have watched it bring into mine, and others' lives.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying my hardest to be kind to everyone. Whether it be someone well known, someone I dislike, or someone I don't even know, I try to make them my friend. I know that we can all live like Christ by being friendly to everyone we meet. I'm also in high school, so I try to share the gospel with everyone without being overbearing. I love introducing others to the church, even though it can be scary answering some questions.
