Hi I'm Barbara

I study theatrical costume design. In my heart I'm an amazing dancer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently working to get my MFA in theatrical costume design and I enjoy - aside from the things you may find it obvious for me to enjoy like history, art, and clothing in various forms - traveling, exploring, and good company, usually accompanied by food.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2010. I had been dating a member of the church for a short while though we both knew nothing could come of it because he wanted to get married in the Temple and I was not about to become what I thought at the time to be a "crazy Mormon." However, he and his family did not seem "crazy" in fact, they seemed awesome, and with an admirable faith. Ultimately, we broke up when he left to finish undergrad but I remained curious and pursued mormonism on my own. Another LDS friend invited me to church and I decided to meet with the missionaries. It was important for me to explore mormonism for me, not for this guy, and for that reason especially I struggled, always second guessing my motives. Nevertheless, I powered through, reading the Book of Mormon and praying hard. I kept waiting for the truth to be revealed to me but it just wasn't happening. I was extremely disappointed. Finally, when the moment came for missionaries to ask if I would make the commitment to be baptized, an incredible thing happened: I felt the spirit with my entire being and it confirmed to me that this was the right thing to do. So I did and I haven't looked back. I little while later I married in the Temple; you know, to that guy I had dated. Life as a Mormon isn't perfect and living a gospel centered life can be challenging at times, but it's really good and we are incredibly blessed.

How I live my faith

Trying to find time to study scripture and be involved in church activities while in grad school is a huge challenge. Luckily, things like audio scriptures and recordings of talks from leaders in the church make it a little easier. My husband and I teach the 3-year-olds at church, which is challenging and fun. As a convert to the church who never went through the primary, I enjoy learning about the foundational teachings of the church at a very basic level. The primary songs are pretty fun, too.
