Hi I'm Jess

I'm a Mormon. I was born into the LDS church. I grew up in Angola, Indiana. I have 5 sisters, and one brother.

About Me

I love animals, trees, music (mainly instrumental or Broadway), movies, reading, and laughing. I am going to be going to college to become a Zoologist. I play the piano, Oboe, and Cymbals (I was in the drum line for High School marching band). I grew up in a densely forested area, so I love to be surrounded by trees. My father and I are movie lovers to the core. I have seen too many movies to keep track of, but my favorite is probably the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have read many books, my favorites being Edenbrooke and Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson. I always try to laugh as much as possible because I feel that it lightens the mood of any situation, and as Elizabeth Bennet said in Jane Austin's "Pride and Prejudice"... "I dearly love to laugh."

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I don't know of any other church that can make you feel the way this one does. I grew up in the church, but that does not mean that I did not have to convert. When you grow up a Mormon you start by completely depending on your parents' testimony. You go to church and church activities because they say you have to, not because you want to or because you understand that it is important. As you get older you start to understand more, but you still depend on your parents' testimonies. You believe in God because they do, not because you know. Then you get to the point of your life when you can no longer depend on your parents faith. This period is full of trials and times of doubt, and it is hard. I have been through this. I have felt confused and unsure, but then I go to church and I get such a feeling of calm and peace that all of my doubts are washed away and that is when I was truly able to start my own testimony. I continue to learn and grow every day in the church and because of the church. I know that there is a path for me and I know that God will help me to stay on it. When I am afraid or confused, the Holy Ghost helps to guide me. He gives me such a feeling of surety that I cannot doubt. I try to live every day using the example that Jesus Christ set for me. I want to be like Him and I know that because of this church and my faith hat I can be.

How I live my faith

I have been the President of the young women's class. In this calling I have helped to strengthen the faith of other young women in the church by being a leader and an example. I am currently the music leader for the young children in my ward. The class that I teach in is known as "Primary" because it comes before all of the other classes when you are very young. As a music leader, I teach the children church songs by playing games or using pictures or actions. It is so much fun and I love to see their faces light up when they truly understand the message of the song they are singing.

What is faith?

Jess
Faith is believing without seeing. It is a key point of any religion because you cannot see some things or beings, like God or the Golden Plates, but you can still have faith that they are real and important. When you have faith you are essentially showing God that you trust Him. By having faith, you can progress in the church because you truly believe in the teachings of the gospel. Without faith, you cannot hope to progress. Show more Show less
