Hi I'm Javan Gagnon

I grew up in Marietta Georgia. I am studying to become an architect after my mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old and serving my 2 year mission in the Nampa, Idaho region. I am excited to be able to serve and preach to other people what I love, the gospel of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Before serving my mission I took two semesters of college studying to become an architect. My goal is to be able to build, renovate, and design vacation homes in the mountains. I love playing soccer, my whole life I've played the beautiful game, 14 years to be exact. I have also been working at Smoothie King for the past 3 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member all my life, but when I was younger I really did not know what was right and wrong, so I just followed what my mom and dad taught me blindly. It was not till much later, when I was 17 did I truly want to find out for myself. I remember reading the Book Of Mormon and how one of the prophets, Alma was at first not apart of the church. He was a false priest under a King. He was young, it doesn't say how old he was but I imagine he was around my age (I also tried to put me in his shoes as I was reading.) When the prophet came and started to preach about the gospel to the king and his priests, he was the only one who heard these things and saw how unrighteous his life and everyone around his was. He decided to change for good. He decided to find out for himself if what this prophet was teaching him was true. So he prayed and the lord answered him and told him that this prophet was indeed a prophet of God. So he ran away from this city, with some righteous people too, and kept teaching the things that the prophet taught him, he baptized those people, and his people gained many blessings and grew to be one of the biggest and righteous cities in the Americas. He was able to achieve so much in his life just because of that one little prayer. If he would not have prayed that day, the whole church would have been lost since that prophet was later murdered by the king. After I read that I knew for a fact that I had to learn for myself. So I found a quiet place to ask Heavenly Father if this Book of Mormon was true. After I prayed I felt an immense amount of joy. My heart started to swell and I started to tear up. From then on I do not have a doubt in my mind that the Book of Mormon is true and the this Church is the church of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by going to church every Sunday, reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and obeying the laws which the lord has given to us. I realized that as we obey the commandments with all our heart and soul, it will make the adversary harder to break us down. I was the first assistant to the bishop when I was 16 and 17 years old. Which means that I helped the Bishop lead and help the youth stay strong in the church. and after that my first calling was to be an elder's quorum teacher. I had to teach young adults, that were much wiser and older than me, about the gospel. I saw the blessings come into my life as I fulfilled my callings.
