Hi I'm Don

I grew up in Idaho but moved to Texas as soon as I could. I started a steel building manufacturing company. I'm a mormon

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of 5 children (3 girls - 2 boys). I have always worked for myself in the steel building manufacturing industry. I have enjoyed many hobbies in my life such as golf, SCUBA diving, fishing, hunting and four wheeling in the sand dunes. I have always loved boats and used one effectively as I was raising my children to provide activities we could enjoy together. My wife and I have enjoyed cruising as we got older and could afford it. We have seen so many interesting places in the world because of cruising. We both love to travel and recently returned from a ten day trip to Israel.

Why I am a Mormon

The reason I am a Mormon is impossible to detail in any depth in the space allowed to me here. I will attempt to identify a few of the many and varied reasons. Looking back it seems to me a miracle that I was found by the missionaries. My parents divorced when I was very young and I lived in Idaho with my mother. She was not a Mormon. In my teenage years I began to make trips to Texas to see my father over the summer. It was during one of those visits that the missionaries found me. It turns out my father was a Mormon but had been inactive since he was a young boy. Knowing who the missionaries were he invited them into our home. I remember almost at the outset of those discussions that it just felt right. The missionaries told me about Joseph Smith and an angel (Moroni) and about an ancient record on gold plates. I prayed about it and felt an undeniable spiritual confirmation that it was true. I joined the church and the journey of faith was now begun for me. Over time I have seen the confirmation of this truth again and again. I have experienced the challenges of life where it might be easy to be distracted but my faith in Jesus Christ and his restored gospel has always been the anchor in my life. No matter the distraction there was always a true and trusted foundation in my life with which I could fix my anchor. I have felt overwhelming joy in the promise of eternal families and I know that the family I love so much will be intact into eternity. I know that Joseph Smith was called of God as his prophet and that Joseph was the instrument that the Lord used to reestablish the fulness of His gospel on the earth once again. I know that we have a living prophet upon the earth today and I know that the Book of Mormon is an actual record of the Lord's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of north America.

How I live my faith

I am a mormon which is a way of life for me. I have served in many different assignments over the years from Young Men's president, Stake Mission President, home teacher, Branch President and Stake High Council. I taught seminary to our youth for several years. This assignment kept the youth of the church in sharp focus in my life. I also served for a time as an institute instructor which kept the young single adults in clear focus in my mind. Recently because of the catastrophic flooding in the Houston Texas area I have teamed up with thousands of volunteers assisting victims of the flooding. I am currently an instructor in my high priest group (a group of men of similar age at church) as well as stake historian.
