Hi I'm Garry Weiss

I was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Florida and now a retired schoolteacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After 10 years in Sales and Marketing I went back to school and became a teacher. It has been a joy to teach English classes in high school and colleges in Ohio, Utah, Arizona, and Mexico since 1996. We have nine wonderful grandchildren from our four loving children and my hobbies are hiking, journaling, coin collecting and whatever the grandchildren like to do. It used to be running 5K's, 10K's and marathons. We love to travel and will be going to live in the Philippines in 2018.

Why I am a Mormon

In 1974 after some investigation and prayer I felt very strongly to join the Church. I was living with some members and the missionaries invited me to play softball on the North Carolina branch team. They were an excellent group of people and from that I decided to go to the Church meetings. Soon I took some lessons and upon learning more about Jesus Christ and His restored gospel and plan of happiness and salvation I was baptized. IT was the BEST decision of my life. It has brought so much joy and light into my life and built upon the good principles my parents taught me. Shortly after I served a two year mission in California and then met my wife and got married and went to college. Though I joined because of a spiritual experience I continue with it because I have seen nothing but good come from the principles of Jesus Christ. It has been a joy to have the Holy Spirit as my guide and continue to learn how to be a better person and serve more willingly.

How I live my faith

Service is how I live my faith and since my dad was a teacher and my mom served in her church it has become second nature. In the community now I am a driver for the Senior Center in our area and teach Sunday School to 12/13 year old children. There is something that comes from serving others and striving to do good as our Master did. Over the years there have been many opportunities to help in the community and in our Church. Recently I was with Mesa Community College Alumni Board and had many opportunities to plan events for alumni and participate in graduation events. To me it is like paying back for what others have done for me though I can never totally repay.
