Hi I'm Andy Childs

I’m from Arizona. I can’t bend my back. I’m a Mormon.

About Me

When I was 14 years old I was diagnosed with slight curvature of the spine. I saw a doctor every six months to monitor it. At age 15 I was fitted with a back brace but it was not as effective as hoped and the curvature progressed. At age 16 I was diagnosed with scoliosis and spinal fusion surgery was recommended. On June 23, 2015 I received the surgery. Beginning my long recovery. While, undoubtedly, I underestimated the extent in which this event would hold in my life, I believe what has changed most in me is an emergence, a surfacing of my character. The change from child to adult, boy to man was strong within me. All it took was the right challenge; the right trial.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been apart of the church. Growing up it has been constantly in my life. When I became a teenager I became distracted, focusing on other things like video games and girls. After my surgery and a few other events in my life I really felt a need to come unto Christ. I started to read the book of Mormon daily and prayed to know if the church was true. I felt the spirit in my heart and during sacrament meeting a special hymn was sung by the primary and it over flooded my body with the love for this church and my family. I know this church is true, it brings me immense happiness and helps me to be a light in the lives of others.

How I live my faith

I have served in few leadership positions as a youth while holding the Aaronic priesthood. My father has instilled within me the importance of service and I have striven to find every opportunity to do so. The biggest step I have decided to take was to serve a mission. I find much joy and love within this church and I desire to share it with all to hear.
