Hi I'm Emily

I love cookie butter, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently I'm a full time college student, working part time as a kid's sports refferee and preparing to serve a full time mission. I'm the oldest of 4 children. My mom is from Brazil, and my dad served a mission in Brazil. Sadly, my Portuguese is still a work in progress. My hobbies include playing the piano on Sunday afternoons, baking cookies for any reason I can think of and watching sunrises. I believe that there is nothing quite like watching a scary movie during a thunderstorm. I also enjoy dancing, running (sometimes), swimming, and hiking!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon for many reasons. I was born into this faith, but that is probably the least significant reason why I love this gospel and why I continue to be a part of it. This gospel is a gospel of happy endings. If you are looking for any glimmer of hope or guidance in this messy world, this gospel will help you find it. We cannot choose our circumstances, but we can choose a path that will lead us to happiness. This gospel is a gospel of peace. There have been many times in my life where I have felt lost, alone, overwhelmed. The list goes on. But knowing that I have a Heavenly Father that I can pray to for guidance has been absolutely priceless to me. You don't realize until you try it, and then you can't help but notice the blessings start pouring into your life. This gospel brings peace of mind, peace of heart, peace of soul. Lastly, this gospel is a gospel of truth. I would not be working to become a full time missionary if this gospel did not add significant value to my life. Yes, church members are imperfect. We stumble and fall like everyone else. This world is imperfect. There are lies almost anywhere you can look, but one steady constant in this life is that the gospel is true. It's pure, and once you put in the time to find out for yourself, you cannot argue with it. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Jeffrey R. Holland once said, "Pure Christ-like love flowing from true righteousness can change the world." I believe that the best way I can live my faith is by loving and serving all of God's children. Every one of us on this earth is a beloved child of God with infinite potential and purpose and deserves to be treated that way. I have served in quite a few church callings, but people often underestimate the power of a smile or a compliment. Although I am imperfect, I live my faith by trying to show my love for people.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Emily
Serving a mission as a Mormon is not required. For men it is strongly encouraged, but serving a mission is a major choice. If it is right for you you will truly feel it in your heart. Being able to serve the Lords children is a privilege and a blessing. Jesus said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." As members of the church we strive to be missionaries in day to day life, by being an example of our faith. Russel M. Nelson once said, "The decision to serve a mission will shape the spiritual destiny of the missionary, his or her spouse, and their posterity for generations to come." Show more Show less
